Brian Voigt took over as the Head Baseball Coach in July 2023. He joined the Peacock baseball staff as an assistant baseball coach heading in January 2023. Prior to becoming a Peacock, Voigt came to Upper Iowa after six years as the head baseball coach at Central Lakes College in Brainerd, Minn. Voigt led the Raiders to 80 wins over six seasons including a record of 42-29 over the last two years.
Voigt was named the 2022 MCAC Central Division Coach of the Year after leading the Raiders to a 28-15 record, recording the second most wins in school history and the Raiders won the MCAC Central Division for the first time since 2001. The Raiders eanred the two-seed for the Region 13 Tournament. In the first weekend the Raiders went 2-0 and qualified for the final four weekend. Voigt coached 10 MCAC All-Central Division players last season.
In 2021, The Raiders qualified for the Region 13 tournament and finished sixth, while compiling a 14-14 record. Finished tied for second in the Central Division. Voigt coached, two All-Region players in Gunnar Wicklund and Phillip Zynda. Wicklund was also named to the MCAC elite team, which is for student-athletes that received athletic awards along with being over a 3.0 GPA. The team finished in in the nation’s top 20 in four offensive categories; HR (15th with 31), SLG (15th with .506), OBP (17th with .427) and AVG (18th with .319)
Prior to his time with the Raiders, Voigt spent two years as an assistant at Northern State Univeristy, where he served as the outfield coach and assisted with hitting and pitching. Both years the Wolves qualified for the NSIC Tournament where they finished fourth in 2015 and fifth in 2016.
Before working in Aberdeen, S.D., Voigt served as the assistant coach at Riverland Community College for the 2013 and 2014 seasons, the team posted a record of 50-18. Voigt managed the pitching staff at RCC and during his two years, the team was in the top 10 for team ERA in both seasons.
Voigt had an outstanding playing career throughout college. He earned All-American First Team honors at Riverland Community College as a shortstop and pitcher as a sophomore. Voigt was a leader while at Riverland and led the team to the NJCAA III World Series and set the wins record with 37 victories in 2009. He set individual records for hitting in doubles (17), triples (7), home runs (16), and RBIs (60) as well as for pitching with an ERA at 0.53 and he also registered a no-hitter in 2009. His career totals as a hitter were; .422 with 27 doubles, 9 triples, 17 home runs and 81 RBIs. On the mound posted a record of 13-4 with 6 saves in 96.1 innings while posting an ERA of 1.78. Surrendered 70 hits and 40 walks to 83 strikeouts
Voigt transferred to Augustana University and was a two-year starter as a third baseman and pitcher. He was a member of the first team to qualify for the NCAA Central Region Tournament and posted back to back 30-win seasons. Voigt posted a career batting average of .284 with 15 doubles, 10 home runs, and 37 RBI. On the mound, Voigt threw 62 innings in 17 appearances posting an ERA of 3.77.
Voigt spent the summer of 2011 as a relief pitcher from the Thunder Bay Border Cats in the Northwoods League. In the summer of 2010 he was a short-stop and pitcher for the Dodge City Athletics in the Jayhawk league as well as an end of the season temporary player in the Northwoods League as a member of the Thunder Bay Border Cats. Voigt had the privilege of playing on a team of collegiate athletes in Europe for USA Athletes International from July 19-27, 2009. The team went 5-1 in Amsterdam, Belgium and France including a second place finish at the prestigious Rouen 76 Tournament in Rouen, France.
He is a native of Adams, Minn. where he graduated from Southland High School. He was a four-year letter winner as well as a three-time letter winner in basketball and twice in football. He was a three-time Three Rivers All-Conference player and a leader on the team the placed second in Class A in 2008 which is the highest a team from Southland has placed
Voigt has earned an associate's degree from Riverland and a bachelor's degree in sport management from Augustana, and he continues to pursue a master's degree in sport performance and leadership from Northern State.
